Marketing 101 (Customer Experience)

Hi to all of our HARLCOM readers,

Today a basic lesson in marketing. Here is the story of Boudreaux and how he sold recurring monthly income products OVER the FREE option. This story was sent to me by a friend and it is a simple yet great example of marketing success.

Here is Boudreaux's story.

"Boudreaux, the smoothest-talking Cajun in the Louisiana National Guard, got called up to active duty. Boudreaux's first assignment was in a military induction center.

Because he was a good talker, they assigned him the duty of advising new recruits about government benefits, especially the GI insurance to which they were entitled.

The officer in charge soon noticed that Boudreaux was getting a 99% sign-up rate for the more expensive supplemental form of GI insurance.

This was remarkable, because it cost these low-income recruits $30.00 per month for the higher coverage, compared to what the government was already providing at no charge. The officer decided he'd sit in the back of the room at the next briefing and observe Boudreaux's sales pitch.

Boudreaux stood up before the latest group of inductees and said, "If you has da normal GI insurans an' you goes to Afghanistan an' gets youself killed, da governmen' pays you beneficiary $20,000. If you takes out da supplemental insurans, which cost you only t'irty dollars a mons, den da governmen' gots ta pay you beneficiary $200,000!

"Now," Boudreaux concluded, "which bunch you tink dey gonna send ta Afghanistan first?"

What lessons can we learn from Boudreaux and his story.

1. Figure out what it is that your customer wants. (in this case NOT to go to Afghanistan.)

2. Frame your pitch in a way that by buying in gives the customer what they want.

3. Price is NOT really a factor as long as the cost of getting what the customer wants is not greater than the want.

4. Framing EMOTION with COMMON SENSE can be a very powerful motivator to drive sales.

5. It is really all about the EXPERIENCE. When you have a feel good experience you are HAPPY to pay the price.

Remember Boudreaux's story and ALWAYS give your customer the BEST experience. Enjoy the rewards of making the sale once and getting paid forever.

We will post again soon. :o)

Frank Talks About The State Of The Internet

Hi HARLCOM Fans,

Well, it's now 2011 and of course the States is in more turmoil than ever. So with a potential market of over 300,000,000 people about to hunker down for what everyone thinks is the end of the world. (December 21, 2012) Just where is the state of the American economy and is there any point in trying to sell stuff.

Frank Kern is an Internet marketing old timer (meaning that he has been around the Internet for more than ten years) Frank is NOT that old, 30's maybe. Anyway he has shot a series of videos where he talks about his take on just what is the state of the Internet going into 2011.

Here is the first video: A BETTER question in three parts.

Okay, so there is still a market with money. the demographics mainly has just gotten sqewed around a bit. Tip #1: think 80/20 rule. Tip #2: Don't be afraid to go offline to do some research.

Now, the second video: The second part of the question.

Secondly, there is a BUYING MARKET. Tip # 3: Forget the 80 and focus on the 20. Tip # 4: People are spending big bucks "IF" they can get greater value than what they are being charged in dollars (thats key so watch the video more than once if you need to)

On to the third: The third part of the question.

Thirdly, there are specific things that people are looking for. Tip #5: TIME is worth money so people want to save time. Tip #6: People NEED SERVICE and they are willing to pay more to ensure Excellent Personal Service.

Now for something interesting.

The bottom line (according to Frank) is that although there seems to be a storm of hate and fear blowing everywhere today, people really appreciate (and will pay for) having a knowledgeable captain that can set the sails with hope and love to safely traverse the storm. Tip # 7: focus on applying hope and love in your sales strategy along with answering the better question and appreciate that your customers will keep your business profitable in 2011 and beyond.

I hope that you GOT Frank's message from the videos as it is KEY to marketing to a changing market place.

As "Mr Rick Butts" often says: "GIT IT? GOT IT!!, GOOD!"
